1.2.3Resin production

Phenolic and melamine resins are produced in large reactors (approx. 10 to 25 m³), in batches and with careful monitoring. The production process takes about 4 to 12 hours. In these reactors, the raw materials are combined, i.e. formaldehyde is bound to the melamine or phenolic molecules and forms reactive molecules for the further condensation process. In the individual batches, condensation is stopped at a defined point to keep the resin water- soluble and suitable for limited storage. The condensation process is continued and completed after paper impregnation in the press, resulting in insoluble, non-melting, high-molecular cross-linked thermoset network.
