Bonding HPL edge materials with colored cores
In principle, the same procedures apply to HPL edge materials with colored cores as to the edge bonding of HPL composite elements. It should also be noted that the stationary method is generally used. The reasons for this are the higher brittleness, stiffness, and resulting restoring forces. This also limits the choice of adhesives. Urea resin or PVAc adhesives are particularly suitable. Reaction adhesives (e.g., polyurethane) can also be used for adhesive joints subject to high stress. The use of contact adhesives for bonding HPL edges with a colored core is not recommended.
Bonding of HPL surface material with colored core
Cold pressing processes have proven themselves in practical applications. The same adhesive systems as those used for edge bonding are suitable for this purpose. A symmetrical structure is required for dimensionally stable elements. This means that the exact same product must be used on the front and back of the wood-based panel. In addition, the grain direction (sanding direction) of the HPL must be identical on the front and back. Any deviations from these principles require consultation with the HPL manufacturer.
