Milling HPL with a colored core
Milling and profiling HPL with a colored core requires special attention due to its high hardness, which is caused by melamine resin and mineral fillers, but also for visual reasons. It is important that the milling machines are particularly stable and powerful. In addition, the workpiece to be machined must be guided securely. Carbide-tipped milling tools with high concentricity improve the surface finish of the machined edge. Before starting production, it is always advisable to consult with machine and milling tool manufacturers. After milling, the surface can be reground and, if necessary, polished with the aid of silicone-free furniture polishes or polishing paste to optimize the surface smoothness and cleanability.
Interior recesses and cutouts of HPL with colored core
For internal recesses and cutouts on HPL composite elements and HPL Compact with a color core, the corners must be rounded off with particular care. The internal radius should be kept as large as possible (at least 6 mm). For internal recesses and cutouts with a side length of more than 250 mm, the radius must be increased gradually in accordance with the side length. Internal recesses must be rounded. They can be made directly with the milling cutter or should be pre-drilled with a corresponding radius before the cutout is sawn out from corner to corner. Sharp-edged inner corners can lead to cracking. In addition, all edges must be free of notches. If sharp-edged inner corners are required for design reasons, these can only be achieved by assembling HPL cut-to-size pieces.
Engraving HPL with a colored core
Engraving is possible on all standard engraving machines using carbide cutters. The cutters should have a 55° back angle.
